Cornell to open new animal disease lab
The $70 million lab will handle 300,000 samples and 1 million tests a year
Ithaca, N.Y. -- Officials at Cornell University on Oct. 1 will mark the grand opening of a new state laboratory to monitor human and animal diseases.
State officials and faculty will be on hand for the debut of the $70 million, 125,000-square-foot New York State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory on the Cornell campus.
"The New York State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory will inspire 21st century discovery, strengthen our ability to successfully respond to emergencies and protect the animals and citizens of New York state," said Michael Kotlikoff, VMD, Phd, dean of Cornell's College of Veterinary Medicine.
The lab is the only full-service animal disease diagnostic facility in the Northeast, processing annually 300,000 samples and conducting more than 1 million tests, according to a Cornell spokesperson.
