Jackson, Miss.
-- If a Mississippi Senate passes a new bill, chiropractors will be cleared to work on animal patients without the direct supervision of a veterinarian.
Senate Bill 2129, introduced Jan. 4, would not allow chiropractors to prescribe or administer any medications, perform surgeries, or practice obstetrics or osteopathy, according to the bill.
The animal patient must have been referred to the chiropractor by a veterinarian licensed in Mississippi. Chiropractors must also be licensed by the state Board of Chiropractic Examiners and complete an approved animal chiropractic course.
The bill has been referred to the Senate Public Health and Welfare Committee.
