The AVMA Professional Liability Insurance Trust-sponsored Professional Liability Program recently unveiled a veterinary license defense endorsement for regulatory actions. The new endorsement provides up to $25,000 per year in legal fees to defend actions against licenses required for the practice of veterinary medicine for an annual premium of $49. The license defense endorsement responds to complaints against an insureds license, including frivolous accusations that could cost thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket expenses to defend (subject to policy terms, conditions and exclusions). This protection is currently offered in 41 states. The remaining states will be notified by mail as the coverage becomes available, PLIT says. You may access the license defense application through the PLIT Fax-on-Demand service at (888) 740-7548 and request Document 109. License defense protection is only available as an endorsement to the PLIT professional liability policy.
