Photos of a new feline breed and a cat with braces.
Enchanting exotic. The Ashera is a new feline breed developed from the African serval, the Asian leopard cat, and the domestic cat, according to Lifestyle Pets in Wilmington, Del. The company is selling the 30-pound breed at $22,000 per cat. A representative says the Ashera interacts and plays like a domestic cat but tolerates walking on a leash better than other felines.

Hey, metal mouth! Dr. Dean Wilkinson at Animal Haven of Socorro, N.M., worked with orthodontist Ginger Bratzel to fit 1-year-old Baxter with customized children's braces. Baxter was hit by a car as a kitten, and his misaligned teeth were causing mouth ulcers and making eating problematic. Baxter's owners say he adjusted well to the braces, which came off Sept. 6. Bratzel featured Baxter at her annual patient appreciation event Sept. 15.
