Vetsulin normally exhibits peaks of activity — one rapid, one delayed — allowing continuous utilization of glucose over time to support the body's basic functions.
Vetsulin is more compatible with a dog's metabolic system than biosynthetic human insulin, the company says.
The goal of treatment of diabetes is to minimize the clinical signs of the disease, risk of hypoglycemia and the development of long-term complications, according to the company.
Using Vetsulin can stabilize the dog and establish a daily routine for pet and owner. The pet should be monitored routinely to follow the evolution of its diabetes and thus determine required changes to its insulin requirements.
Vetsulin should not be used in dogs that have an allergy to pork or pork products and is contraindicated during periods of hypoglycemia, the company says.
