Throughout the years, this credential has served as a token of professional accomplishment and excellence in veterinary practice management.
The Veterinary Hospital Managers Association (VHMA) is celebrating 30 years of the Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM). This prestigious certification recognizes the knowledge and experience of veterinary management professionals.
"In the three decades since this program was created, the CVPM credential has become recognized by practice leaders and others in the veterinary industry as proof of professional achievement and excellence," said Christine Shupe, CAE, Veterinary Hospital Managers Association executive director, in an association release.1
"These four letters have become shorthand for a vast knowledge base and experience," she added.
In 1989, VHMA members noticed a rising demand to ensure practice managers had the required information and background to succeed in the complicated veterinary business. Thus, a committee was developed to devise a certification program.
In 1992, seventeen veterinary management professionals were the first to receive the CVPM credentials. Now, last year's class of CVPMs was 118. Later this year, its anticipated that the total number of certified professionals will reach 1,000, according to the release.1
"The rigor of this credentialing program coupled with the extraordinary skill displayed by the professionals who have earned it have aided in elevating the role of the veterinary practice manager from a job to a career," Shupe said.
