The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has spent millions of dollars to review and whittle down the list of 29 original parties interested in hosting its $450 million National Bio-and Agro-defense Facility (NBAF). Last month, the agency's team of experts narrowed that list to 14 potential sites based on four criteria: acquisition/construction/operations, research capabilities, workforce and community acceptance. The following is a list of candidates that have advanced to the next phase of DHS's site planning process. DHS expects to name the final NBAF site in early 2008.
