The people have spoken!
Voters on dvm360.com chose Eden Veterinary Clinic in Eden, New York, as the 2016 Veterinary Economics Hospital Design Competition People's Choice Award winner from the entire pool of 2016 entries.
Future planning and a welcoming, home-like environment drove the design of this new building project, which is located in a farm community near a transition area between family farms and a business district. The 6,500-square-foot clinic is owned by husband-and-wife team Drs. Luis Tarrido and Kelly Czech, who bought the practice in 2007.
The reception area is bright and welcoming.
Continuing care
When the two doctors outgrew the original practice, which was attached to their private residence, the doctors had a clear vision to keep continuity in care: They planned to build in the empty space next to their current hospital. This had an added benefit of allowing them to stay open in the old facility for much of the building process, seeing patients and continuing to serve as the town's animal control stray housing center.
Soothing colors continue into the exam rooms.
Inspiration came from actress Sandra Bullock's New Orleans home.
Inspiration for the design came from actress Sandra Bullock's New Orleans home. Because the clinic is in a residential area, and the doctor's home was on the same property, the home-like architecture for the new practice fit right in. That feeling of homey warmth carried through to the interior as well.
The comfort room features plenty of natural light and comfortable seating for clients during difficult times.
Thinking ahead
Another key in designing this hospital was to leave room for future planning and expansion to come. In the future, the team will have an easy transition to a 24-hour emergency facility should they choose to move to that model of practice, as well as room to expand and bring on associates for practice growth by adding space to the second floor for additional offices (check out their floor plan below).
The treatment area carries the theme of the rest of the hospital.
