Compana Pet Brands to unveil Technical Center of Excellence

Compana Pet Brands, a company focusing on pet care and nutrition, is debuting a Technical Center of Excellence in line with the company’s continuous efforts to create new capabilities to drive transformational growth. Micah Kohles, DVM, MPA, Compana’s newly appointed chief veterinary officer, will spearhead the team.

“As we continue to build Compana’s position as a global leader in pet care and nutrition, it is essential that we integrate technical expertise into all facets of our business,” stated Kohles, in a company release.¹ “Our Technical Center of Excellence will expand our research capabilities to further ensure that every Compana Pet Brands product is formulated on a foundation of science and nutrition to support pet health and wellbeing.”

The Technical Center of Excellence will support scientific research including identifying, vetting, and communicating breakthrough ingredients, applications, and technologies. It will also promote accelerated innovation. Compana’s CEO who joined the team in January 2023, Gre Pearson, advocated for the initiation of the Technical Center of Excellence, among other plans he has for the company.

“Innovation is a major growth engine for our company, and we must continue to focus our vast and global expertise and resources to attain and sustain best-in-class products for pets and their families,” expressed Pearson, in the release. “Expanding our talented technical team with our new Chief Veterinary Officer Dr Kohles at the helm will enable that growth.”

In January 2022, Kohles joined Compana, when the company acquired Oxbow Animal Health, where he served as vice president – technical services & research.

According to the release,¹ Kohles owns and actively practices at Woodland Animal Hospital and is as an adjunct professor appointment at the University of Nebraska School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Additionally, he is a regular lecturer at veterinary schools and conferences across the globe and has been named speaker of the year for both VMX (Veterinary Meeting & Expo) and WVC (Western Veterinary Conference). Currently, he serves on the World Pet Association and Pet Advocacy Network Board of Directors and is also an active member of various professional organizations, including American Veterinary Medical Association, Association of Avian Veterinarians, Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association, American Association of Zoo Veterinarians, Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians, and the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians, where he is a past president.
