Referring a case usually indicates a need for more specialized care, whether it be a surgical or imaging center or a teaching hosptial. This can be stressful or scary for clients and their pets, especially if they aren't sure what to expect.

While it may seem silly, clients have gone to referral practices for consultation without their pet, or they're surprised when there's a fee for a consultation, because they're unprepared for the appointment.
