Vidium Animal Health prevailed against 10 other companies presenting at a Shark-Tank style event
Vidium Animal Health, a Phoenix-based startup creating precision cancer detection for pets, recently won the Innovation Award at the 2022 Animal Health Summit. This gathering of industry leaders and innovators was hosted by the KC Animal Health Corridor at the Midland Theatre in downtown Kansas City, Missouri.1
Vidium was among 11 animal health startups that presented at Emerging Companies, the Shark-Tank style event in which entrepreneurs aim to find support from investors and possible partners in the audience, plus top marks from a panel of judges analyzing the pitches.
According to David Haworth, DVM, PhD, president of Vidium Animal Health, in a release, the company is planning to offer a genomic-based blood test to market at a price point that allows it to be included in wellness exams. The technology detects certain DNA mutations present in a patient’s body, enabling veterinarians to select targeted treatments more likely to be effective. “Having the opportunity to talk about Vidium Animal Health and have it recognized in front of such an amazing, well-informed audience—it’s priceless,” commented Haworth.
Additional companies that were competing for the 2022 Innovation Award included: Birds Eye Robotics; VetGuardian; and Lemna. Throughout the last 5 years, over 500 companies have applied to present at the Animal Health Summit, and up-and-coming companies have raised half a billion dollars through their involvement, said Kimberly Young, president of the KC Animal Health Corridor.
What’s more, the Animal Health Summit this year spotlighted various panel discussions, with the main takeaways consisting of themes of authenticity and connections.
