Improve your practice's client reminders.

Client compliance can make the difference between success and failure with a treatment plan—especially for pets with illnesses that need ongoing monitoring, such as Cushing's syndrome. That's why Lisa Greenawalt, CVT, a technician at Haines Road Animal Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla., says her practice requires rechecks before refilling prescriptions.

"When clients call to ask for refills, we can remind clients their pets need to be seen at the practice to check on their progress before the next prescription is refilled," she says. "For pets in your practice receiving medication, this can make it easier to get clients to return for follow-up testing."

Then remind clients that pets with Cushing's syndrome may need care for the rest of their lives, and appropriate follow-up appointments will help the veterinary team offer their pet the best care.
