Pet food company settles class action suit for $3.1 million
Diamond Pet Foods will offer refunds and pay veterinary bills for dogs affected by contaminated food recall in 2005.
In a settlement unrelated to the much larger, multi-brand pet food recall last year, Diamond Pet Foods is settling a class action lawsuit related to contaminated dog food in 2005 for $3.1 million.
The manufacturer will refund money to consumers who bought Diamond-brand products tainted with the mold aflatoxin as well as veterinary bills for owners of dogs that got sick after eating the food.
If class members can prove that they bought the contaminated food or that their dogs became ill after eating it, they'll receive a refund within six months of a March 26 hearing. Those who want to pursue separate legal action must file letters postmarked no later than March 16.
