Dig up the dirt on yourself before your future boss does.
If a potential employer ran a background check on you, what would he or she discover? Sheila Grosdidier, BS, RVT, a partner and consultant with VMC Inc., says she recommends checking out your report before your future boss does.
"Electronic background checks are becoming a lot more common, and it's possible to do an electronic background check on yourself," she says. "This way you know what's going to come up before you go in for your job interview."
Grosdidier says she has interviewed a few managers who bring a copy of their own background check to an interview and show it to her. "It's reassuring to know that if you request a background check, you have an idea of what it will say and you're not wasting your time with this candidate. It gives these candidates an advantage."
