NTRA pushes for quick adoption of racehorse safety plan
September 16th 2008Lexington, Ky. -- In another move toward reform in the racing industry, the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) is seeking to have a long-term plan to implement uniform health and safety measures for racehorses in place within 30 days -- or by the time the Breeders' Cup World Championships are held Oct. 24-25 at California's Santa Anita racetrack.

Salmonella fears trigger national pet food recall
September 12th 2008Franklin, Tenn. - Mars Petcare US issued a voluntary recall today for products manufactured at its Everson, Penn. facility. The pet food is being recalled because of potential contamination with Salmonella serotype Schwarzengrund, the company reports. This voluntary recall only affects the United States.

Florida counties get emergency relief as Gulf coast braces for more storms
