4 ideas for celebrating Spay Day
Valentine's Day is nice, but Spay Day might be February's most important holiday.
It's that time of year again: Spay Day, celebrated the last Tuesday of February, is a campaign initiated by the Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society International to promote spaying and neutering of pets. What are you doing to celebrate? Here are a few ideas from organizations around the country:
> The Central Missouri Humane Society in Columbia, Mo., will hold a “spay-ghetti” dinner and silent auction to raise funds and awareness for Spay Day.
> A group of veterinary practices will team together to spay and neuter all shelter animals at the Chemung County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) in Elmira, N.Y., today. The SPCA will also offer free adoptions of fixed animals on Spay Day.
> Pet owners can stop by the Cowley County Humane Society in Winfield, Kan., on Spay Day to pick up a $50 voucher to be used toward spaying or neutering their pet at a veterinarian of their choice.
> The Quincy Humane Society in Quincy, Ill., hosted “No Father's Day” on Feb. 22, offering free neuters for 100 male cats.
