The team at Ottawa Animal Hospital in Holland, Mich., adopted two groups of solders in Iraq. One is a surgical Marine unit and the other is a group of Army soldiers. Donna Bauman, the practice manager, posts a list of the soldiers' needs on the practiceWeb site and has placed a box in the waiting area where clients, team members, and members of the community can drop items off. Bauman and her team pack and ship the items to the soldiers. They also gather clients' pet photos and stories and send them to the soldiers. The response from the community, Bauman says, has been steady. When she receives a response from a soldier, she shares it with the team and posts the letters and photos in the reception area. "The soldiers are grateful and thankful," says Bauman.
